SOIL CONDITIONS:
The soil conditions in Ottawa are somewhat unstable. Ottawa has leda clay which makes the soil unstable. Builders, if not taking the right building steps cannot build a house of this soil due to its high water content, which makes the soil highly compressible. Putting extra weight (a house) on the soil like this has the potential to squeeze out some of the water which in a home can lead to foundation cracks, etc. if of course, the builders are not careful of what they do.
Ottawa also has a reputation for extremely variable soil conditions. By that, that could mean that on days the profile may change (dry to wet). Below we can see a person holding Leda clay on his/her's hands. It looks very muddy and moist due to the high water content in it.

VEGETATION:
Ottawa's vegetation region is in the Mixed Forest region. The vegetation in that region consists mostly of shrubs, coniferous and deciduous trees. Mixed forests also contain evergreen trees also.
In the Mixed Forests, aside from growing trees, there are also many types of ferns, grasses, and green leafy plants. The soil in this vegetation region contains deep grey brown topsoil that is rich in minerals. Since the soil is not acidic, this makes the soil in here good for growing which is why we see a lot of plants, otherwise, if the soil was very acidic, it would be very poisionus thus we would not see much plant life here.

Above you can see an example of what a mixed forest looks like in Canada.
